Learning Journal 7

This week was another short week in terms of class as we only met on Wednesday and Friday. Those two days, in fact, were spent in regards to the midterm for section 1 and 4. As I was preparing for the midterm, there were two terms that stuck out to me that I was seemingly unknowledgeable about before.

The first was empty and non-empty tags. Knowing about the terms will help me to better identify how tags are used. The other was DOM, or document object model. This helped me to understand what five parts are required for proper DOM: doctype, HTML, head, title and body.

The majority of my work outside of class was spent in regards to the group project. Getting things done in my group has been very frustrating. All of them are great people and quite talented but the level of work from them has not been up to where it should be for this class.

An example of this has to do with my role as site editor. On Thursday, we divided out sections of the site for people to write content for. After being surprised that people where asking what to write, I mentioned that they information was clearly explained in the asset list section of the site plan. Despite explaining this and also stressing the importance of it, the content written by team members was poor and did not follow the asset list.

Another example has to do with the coding. When our final site was given to all of us to upload to our own sites, I noticed a lot of issues that would have caused our grade to be marked down. I mainly had to fix items related to images and page titles and there is still a lot of room for improvement.

All of this has been frustrating mostly because it feels that my group is only putting half effort into this. I want to succeed at this and do my best work but I feel the group is struggling to feel the same. Hopefully it works out differently in the end.
